Desert became silent. Everything became silent; not a wind was blowing; no creatures of the sands could be heard.
He eventually said something, but in somewhat of a more sombre tone than he had spoken before. "I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it. That was over fifty years ago." Her voice came out stronger. "I was able to become a monk that way. And I became stronger because of it."
"Things happen for a reason. I'll figure out why I was brought here sooner or later."

With those words, the first light of day broke out from the east, flashing brightly across the mirror-like pool. The sands of the desert became vivid hues of yellow and red as they came out from the shadow of night. It was rather cool, but the sun promised that that would not last long after it had finished rising.

With a sigh, Sijji resigned herself to the shack. Surprisingly she hasn't wilted as much as she thought she would.
"Alright. I guess I'll talk to you later t'night." The monk said softly as she retired for the day.

"Yes. Sleep well. Sweet dreams."

The winds came down quite strongly from Forest up in the mountains during the day, picking up a large quantity of sand as they went. Desert tried to have its elementals protect the oasis Sijji was staying at; not fully in vain, but not fully successfully either. The oasis didn't suffer from the wind, but a dry, dusty layer of sand managed to coat everything by the time dusk came.
It was a rather dark day from the sand filling the sky and blocking the sun, and as the winds had not died down by nightfall, no stars could be seen through the dusty cloud, and the thin crescent moon probably would not be visible even if it were already up.
Desert waited for Sijji to wake naturally.

Sijji peeked out the door and pulled her goggles on. After a pause, she pulled out a bandanna from her side pack and wrapped it around her face. It was then that she stepped out.
"What happened?" The monk asked stepping out carefully.

"Sandstorm," Desert answered, his windy voice coming from various points around the oasis. "It's not so bad here; I have my own winds keeping it relatively calm, but farther away, the winds get stronger and the air is thick with sand."

The monk shrugged not really caring much. "So long as it doesn't get so bad, I s'pose." She looked around, feeling a touch uncomfortable from the threat of the sandstorm.
"I just don't like to get too dry. Plants and plant like beings tend to wilt a bit... especially if they are not of that climate." Sijji pulled the bandanna down, noting that the sand wasn't as severe as she thought. "Too bad ota-oka-san wasn't a cactus spirit..."

"I shall try not to let it get too bad."
"A plant? Are you saying that you are a plant? You certainly look like you are not a plant; I have certainly never seen any plants which walk and talk and eat and drink like you do."

"Well, half actually, and a spirit more than anything else. Ota-oka-san was a bamboo spirit and my mother was a wood elf. I may look more like my mother, but ota-oka-san has a lot of influence over me as well."
"Were this a forest setting, I could summon my vines. It's a lot harder out here in the sands... even if I'm in an oasis." Sijji looked back at the storm. "How long to these usually last?"

"About a day or so," replied Desert. "Then the winds die down enough that they stop carrying so much sand, but they stay just as hot and dry."
A gust ruffled the leaves of one of the tallest palms. "What is bamboo?"

"Bamboo... it's a type of grass, I suppose. It's usually found it a climate with more moisture than this." Sijji glanced at the storm through her goggles. "It can get annoying.. but oh well."
