Character Name: Asai Tersocor
Character type: Sci-Fi
Spieces: (Half-)Diran. Asai is biologically a half-Diran, but is believed by all to be a full-blooded Diran.
Gender: Male
Character Class: Startrader
Alignment: Mostly neutral, but mostly pragmatic
How I view the world: Play your cards right, and you'll win. Play them wrong, and you'll lose. Even if you're hanging on by a string, nothing's hopeless; you can always find a way out of whatever predicament there is. Of course, you need to be the only one who knows your hand and the only one who's playing it to be able to play them right.
Physical Appearance: Humanoid, about 6'7" tall, and a very thin frame, though not bony. Sort of like a reasonably slender human about 5 feet tall got stretched taller without increasing its girth. His face is rounded at the top, but has sides reaching straight to a pointed chin. His long white hair is braided and put in a bun on top of his head, letting his round ears show. His skin is off-white, with just a hint of blue, and his eyes a most vivid bright blue. In other words, he looks like a perfectly normal Diran.
Likes and Dislikes: He hates being watched and controlled, and is glad to be outside the range of the Diran mental net. He doesn't much care for rations, since that's all the food he carries on his ship, and it gets rather tiring day after day. Whenever he's at a spaceport, he'll try to wander off to sample the local cuisine. He doesn't much like physical labor, and had automatic cargo bays installed on his ship to keep him from having to lift a finger to load and unload.
Quirks and Faults: Initiating telepathic communication with someone not expecting it, especially one not used to it, tends to unnerve them. Unfortunately, it's his only option for communication besides Galactic Standard and mimicry. With his laser gun, he's not that great a shot and often tends towards overkill when using it: He once punched a sizable hole in the outer hull of his freighter while firing on an intruder, and he tends to hold the trigger down longer than necessary, draining the battery faster and often causing excessive harm. He still prefers using it over hand-to-hand fighting, though, given his weak build.
Powers/abilities: Asai can communicate with any intelligent creature telepathically, regardless of what languages they know, a trait common to all Diran. He also knows Standard Galactic, which he uses with other traders and those who interact with them. As a result of his mixed-blood heritage, he has neither the psionic adeptness of the Diran nor the psionic naivete of his father's race, giving him a moderate degree of psionic resistance.
History in a nutshell: Through his childhood, he was a good Diran, learning what was taught to him in school. But he started to sneak off to the spaceport on his planet of Diran-Sodoc, the point of all trade between the Diran and the rest of the races of the galaxy. This was forbidden, and punished severely, but they never could fully control Asai. Right before he was to have finished his schooling, he stowed away on one of the freighters calling on the spaceport and left the Diran. He spent the next ten years working on freighters, eventually earning enough to buy his own and go into business for himself.
