[shadow=red,left,300]The Big Ass List [/shadow]
of Quirks and Faults
of Quirks and Faults
That's right, following is the start of the big ass list of quirks and faults. I'm posting a bunch that I've gleaned from various sources as well as some home brews. Think of this as the same thing as taking every cook book you own and putting all the recipes in one big binder for easy access...no more flipping through fifteen different rpg books and two psych text books to find a little spice for a character.
Lets make this list Big Ass!
1.)Ageism: Character is seen as a child by other party members and characters (age really doesn't have as much with it as their APPARANT age. Therefor an elven child, though almost 100 years old, would still be seen as a 5-9 year old by others, exspeically of the same race)
EXAMPLES: Francy the pirate is a young halfling and thus resembles an 8-9 year old child (with hairy feet.) Because of this she isn't allowed to go into some bars, isn't taken seriously, and her other party members tend to ignore her when they should really pay attention.
2.)Attack Restriction: Character cannot attack certain people or has extremely strong moral reservations to fight (a pascifist, or someone who will only attack obvious 'bad guys')
Crescendo is a moral and shy girl and has a serious problem with confrontation. She will only fight if attacked first and will NOT fight friends or family (or anybody who looks like them for that matter). Thus when her boyfriend was under a spell and attacked her, she let herself nearly become road pizza before hurting him
3.) Attack Gesture/Words: Character must perform a certain gesture or say certain words to use their speical powers, or attacks. (note: most wizards or magic users have this fault)
Zobeida's magic gauntlet's spell attacks will not work unless she verbalises the correct attack name (a whisper but a low level spell, to a shout for a high one)
Zephryine the sand spirit on the other hand must sing and dance to get her magic to work. She cannot cast a spell without the correct dance steps, moves and songs and thus is screwed if she can't move or doesn't have the space to do it.

4.) Two Left Feet: Character is rather clumsy and accident prone, tending to crash into things, fall off of stuff, break things etc. It's a typical problem for Shoujo characters. This speaks for itself
5.)Fragile: Character is easily hurt or has a delicate build (Fairies or creatures with delicate wings would get this fault)
6.)Random: Character has the attention span of a gnat and tends to get distracted over just about anything. (at the most extreme). Kender are all like this naturally.
Luis the kender cleric of Tymora isn't as easily destracted as her bretherine, but still goes from topic to topic and tends to forget things almost instantly. If she sees something shiny she'll go check it out, even if she was in the middle of something before. She might even change the topic of conversation in the middle of a sentence
7 .) Damn Clueless:
---------COMBAT: Character tends to make unwise choices in battle or does things that make you go "HUh?!" Like attacking a dragon with a fork, or starting a 5-1 fight with ninja cyborgs.
---------SOCIAL: Character is blunt, crude, and obnoxious, even to their own species (some species like Klingons are just like that ...but one who's annoying even to their own...)
----------MENTAL: character well...is just damn clueless! They're not that bright, kind of mindless, and are happy to trot after folks like a dog.
8.) Item Dependency : Character needs to have access to a certain item (food, medicine, a favorite weapon, polution...etc) in order to function normally. Without it they are edgy, nervous, and unable to concentrate. May be psychological (they only believe that they need it)
Gelidus is dependant on DNA grafts to keep healthy while using her heavy spells. She feels down and nervous when she is in need of one (gotten through body fluid to fluid contact) and is unable to use her magic again until this item is acquired.
Shikkari required 5000 cal at LEAST a day in order to fuction normally. If they don't get their required food through twinkies, pizzas and other fattening things, they begin to become violent, short tempered, more beligerant than usual, and eventually go psychotic.

9.) Phobia : Character has a fear of something for no good reason
Sijji's fear of butterflies. (butterflies for gods sake!)
10.) Butt Ugly: Character is rather unatractive to other species and thus seems to have problems dealing with them
Character is just slightly "off": Melissa's black incect eyes and antenne creep out nonbeefolk (regular beefolk don't notice)
Character is quite unattractive, even to their own kind: Alucard's body is covered with unhealed wounds and scars. The sight of so much blood creeps out even the wildest of warriors and makes it hard for him to deal with people without a way to hide it.

11.) Ability Loss: Character temporarily loses the use of one or more special abilities at regular intervals
EXAMPLE: Alucard the bloodmage cannot use his blood magic during a full moon.
12.) Alien Outlook : Character sees something differently than everybody else owing to their culture and species.
EXAMPLE: Geli sees any form of contact from a touch on the arm to even a punch to the head to be some sort of sexual come on.
Some alien cultures might see a handshake as an act of war, or nodding as meaning no and shaking the head to mean yess. A grin or smile to them might me like a dog showing its teeth in aggression

13.) Major Vulnerability: Character will be seriously hurt or die if exposed to a certain substance (Sunlight, salt water, shaving cream, stubble, cococola, beer, garlic, popculture, Jerry Springer rerums etc...)
Zobeida is burned severly by the touch of silver and could even die if injured with a silver object like a fork, knife, or even silver candle holder.
14) OCD: There's something a character can't do until they perform a certain ritual (like not sleeping before checking all the doors twice, doing a dance before a fight, wearing ladies panties on their head when they need to concentrate)
Cress refuses to go out in public before changing her clothes at least four times and covering her back with makeup...even if her scales won't be seen
15.) Bad Luck : Character seems to suffer more bad luck than the normal person really should
Luis seems to have many mishaps (Setting off traps when standing still, having most of her spelslb backfire) and can be described as murphy's law incarnate. Al Esper on the other hand is a walking trouble magnet and sure tavern toasting chaos follows right at his heels
16.) Famous: Character is extremely well known making getting around without notice very hard. Every thing they do is scrutinized and written about by the media
Basil is a famous rock star and is constantly followed by fan girls. Geli is an infamous criminal responsible for the total destruction of 2 galaxies, 54 planets, 586 cities, 1400 bars/taverns/other buildings and 3 matress tags. Thus she's constantly avoiding the authorities and doesn't tend to leave Eidios very much
17.) Obsession: Character has a certain behavior or situation that he cannot resist (gambling, shiny objects, looking for treasure, chases every attractive character they see)
Zobeida and Al are interested in any magical artifact they find or hear about, even if it means they have to fight an army of zombie umber hulks to get it. Geli is an uncontrollable horndog who feels the need to try and get into the pants of any attractive man she sees....
