Loveless is more like it

As y'all may know, I just started art school....and my personal art style is inspired by manga.

However, one of my professors has the opinion that if you have even the slightest manga style in your art you are a quote: "unoriginal, copy catting, no talent hack who's doing art like a child" unquote, and THEN she goes so far as to make fun of everything we do and get really nasty about it. I don't think my stuff is hard core manga style, it's a hybrid, and it really gets me down since I've made a serious point of making my stuff original.

This is really gettin' me down...I'm screwed since I can't get the manga outta my style, partially because it's much more versitile than realism. Some profs since it's a trend, well so was realism, impressionism and what not. But regardless, its gotten to the point when I have to force myself to pick up a pencil because I think my stuff sucks ass because I still draw what I like...

So...what's your feeling on this whole mangastyle = bad art debate?

Well, one: that Professor is a total bitch. Sure, elves are popular. Before they were in manga, they were in every fantasy story I've read. And, from what I've heard, humans do not always like being humans. That's why we rely on other races to tell the stories or to be in it some how. Elves are just natural, probably because they look like humans.

Two: Manga makes more sense for some things. No offense to Marvel, but those characters only have a limited amount of expression. From what I've read of OHA, the characters are extremely expressive. Frankly, anything hard-core Marvel would not look good on your characters.

Three: You said it yourself yesterday. She worked for Disney. Anything else just looks wrong to her.

Four: Your a great artist. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. Don't allow yourself to feel down. This college is mostly full of annoying immature art bitches.

More importantly, nee-chan, talk to me. If something is bothering you at school let me know. That way you have someone to talk to that is more than likely having the same problem.

To those who know me.. if I seem t' be a total bitch in the forums after January, blame my classes with Prof. Love. I'll do my best to keep most of my ranting in my LJ, but I can't really promise...

I can't believe I'm admitting that. When I step back and look at the big picture I can see where she's coming from.
<<; At least I have her in the morning. She seems to be in a much better mood that she did that one day in the comic book creation workshop.

...apparently I have fetish ducks. ^^; We had t' draw Daffy Duck for our first project. I must've been drawing anthropoloymorphs for so long that I stuck with me when I did this. My duck looked lik a chick. I swear, it was the legs. I need t' work on that...
And by fetish she meant human like. Similar to Jessica Rabbit. You put an animal's head on a human body. ^^; She was nice when it came to explaining it, too.

...I just need t' stay on her good side. Wish me luck, minna-san!
