Interesting idea. I hope it can work out. I may stay around and be active, even.
But I'm a bit unclear on the concept of how settings will work here:
My idea of a completely free-form setting is that there's nothing designed from on high; that settings will evolve as players wish to act in them. interplanar.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1088662074 seems to say the same thing here:
But the numerous IC forums already given seem to contradict that, in that there's some settings already specified, but no place to RP outside of those specific settings/forums. How does this work? Similarly, I'd expect that once we have a reasonably-sized community here, that newcomers could choose to either join an existing setting or create their own new setting; the same issues would exist for creation, but it would also be helpful to have separate forums for exactly those setting that actively exist.
Also, how self-contained will the settings be? I can see such things happening as, for example, given a spacefaring setting and a Tolkien setting, that the spacefarers would land on Middle Earth. Players would certainly complain about such tampering with their settings, but the opportunity for merger is one of the potentially powerful strengths of an environment like this over one dedicated to a single setting. We'd need some means of making sure that what happens is acceptable to the players concerned, as far as major, world-changing events go.
Of course, as with any community, there should be some codified play-nice-with-others-and-show-common-decency-type rules (especially if mods are also players, so that there's a clear system and as little abuse of power as possible), but some of the realization of that will have to wait until the metamechanical issues are clearer.
Wow, I've gone on for a while here. I hope this all can work...

In this world and time, anything can happen. You feel like doin' Tolkienesque fantasy in the material plane? Great! You wanna look for true love and the right spice in the bars of a space station? Welcome aboard mate! The whole idea: Have fun, coroporate, stretch those creative muscles and roleplay the way it was meant to, without strict rules. Because what's the fun of playing a game when you're just somebody else's toy? Be your own toy dammit!
