Sijji growled, glaring around the underground cavern. "Now why in all the hells am I here?" The monk looked around, trying to figure out her location. It was dark. The ground was rough, but there was a lot of space.
Before she had ended up underground Sijji was walking in the daylight. She had felt the ground give way, then all went black, both literally and figuratively.
"Is anyone here?" the spirit called out softly. Her voice echoed slightly to her surprise. Sijji wasn't used to being in confined spaces. At least there aren't any butterflies down here....

In answer to the question, once the echoes have died away, a distant, rhythmic tapping sound can be heard, as of a tool tapping against a rock; and once light-adapted eyes adjust to the utter darkness, a very faint glow of light can be seen, down one of the tunnels. Strangely, the breeze carries with it a surprisingly pleasant aroma, rather like the scent of a good stew.

Well... that'll work for me. Sijji began to go toward what she thought was the direction of the sound. For all she knew, tho, she could have been going in the wrong direction. "Anyone there?"

Fortunately for Sijji, the tunnel opens up a bit, and leads into a small cavern, one with a dozens glowing crystalline stalactites dipping down from the roof. Water visibly trickles down a few spots along the walls, collecting into a small pool near the tunnel Sijji's emerging from. Thick clusters of moss, mold, and fungi sprout all over the place, rooting anywhere they can find a place.
One toadstool, oddly, is being used as a stool, and another as a table. Both are about the right size for a human - which is what the guy sitting on the stool looks like. As Sijji enters, he looks up, and quirks an eyebrow, with a mild grin. "Ah. Hello, there. Come in, don't just stand there."

"Um.. thanks?" Sijji said, slipping into the area. "What... where am I?" The monk blinked, trying to see a bit better in the dark. With a sigh, she pulled her goggles over her head. Almost instantly she could see just like it were daylight. "I think I fell through a sink hole. Do you know what's over head?"

"You're in a minor offshoot of the Shimmering Caverns, about three days from N'Shadda." The human-ish guy waves a hand absently. "There's a colony of undertrolls about fours hours down the tunnel you just came from, surprisingly civilized for trolls. They make a wonderful bread out of russet mold and black toadstools. And about a day's journey down and three north is the Deep City of Xeras'guhl, capital of the gnomish realms."
He pushes his hair back, and favors Sijji with a grin. "As for what's above us, I daresay a rather forsaken and desolate desert badlands, although I understand it seems to've picked up a touch of sentience in recent millenia. Unless your sinkhole has sturdy enough sides to climb, however, I think you might find it difficult to climb back to the surface. The nearest safe passage is through N'Shadda, and on to the Furnace Lakes, a week beyond N'Shadda, and from there up through the Firefont Mountains onto the Ashen Plains."

Sijji blinked. "Honto? Maybe I'll just stay down here for a bit." Her eyes wondered about. "Could you show me around? I've never been underground before."

"Certainly, certainly. Is there anything you particularly want to see? Hungry? Thirsty? Any questions at all, please feel free to ask me. I'm Lugh, by the way." The human-ish fellow nods, and offers Sijji his hand by way of greeting. "First time underground, then? Lucky you to fall in here, you know. A lot of other areas wpould be nasty for a first-time spelunker to fall down into. Never know just what you might meet. Giant mimics, lurkers above, spiders the size of camels, oh yes, really rather vicious and dangerous for most people."

"I'm Sijji," the halfling responded, taking his hand. Upon hearing the names of the other critters down here, she shuddered slightly. Part of it was due to the possible close call, and the other due to the coolness she wasn't used to. Most of her travels took through mountains, forests, and deserts. There were still close calls during those adventures, like not being able to get into a set of rooms in a kender temple which she later learned housed a very nasty white dragon. At least on the above ground fights, she was used to the terrain. Maybe I can just think its a room... it's all it basically is... a really big room. "At least these creatures don't have wings, ne? I don't do too well around things that do..." She adjusted her goggles. "Nice place you have here, Lugh-san."

"Oh dear no, of course not. Aside from a few bats and the like in the bigger caverns, there's hardly any space at all for things that fly down in these caverns." Lugh looks around the area, and shrugs. "I suppose it happens to be nice. The only thing I did was encourage a few of the local plants to grow into furniture and make the glowstones bright enough to see by. Not many things down here want to bother me, which is more than I can say of the upper lands, really."
"Now then, is there anything you need? Anything you particularly want to go see? I know the area around here, rather well in fact, and I can find guides for other parts, indeed."

"Thank the gods..." Sijji murmured. Though she knew now that butterflies won't kill her, circumstances depending, she didn't like being reminded of her parents death. Shaking her head, she warded off any feelings from that time. "Do you have any water? I am a bit thirsty."

"Oh my, yes, of course! Just over there, a pool of perfectly fresh water. Mind the purple puffballs, the spores take forever to settle out of the air and they keep trying to grow everywhere. Such a nuisance to wake up and find you've got three dozen tiny puffballs growing on your skin, it is, yes." Lugh waves a hand, absently, as he prepares to get up from his seat.

The monk quirked an eyebrow. "I s'pose it'd be a bit of a nuisance, waking up purply." Sijji chuckled.
"What's it like, living underground?" she asked, after getting a few sips of water.

"Much the same as anywhere else, indeed. Oh, no sun or rain, but if I need such I can make them readily enough. Cool, and sheltered, and more than enough space to go around. Wth the mazes of tunnels, hardly any kingdoms go past the city borders. Much too hard to control the wild tunnels, mmhmm."
Lugh stretches as he stands, revealing himself to be taller than he looked sitting, with a trim, athletic body that looks utterly at odds with the scholarly papers on the toadstool table and the hermit-like appearance of his apparent home.

"Make them?" Sijji quirked an eyebrow. "What do you mean by that? Are you a wizard of sorts?" The monk eyed him again. Kiya... I'm glad I'm not Moned... This guy probably wouldn't like someone like her glomping onto him... Sijji thought, her mind bringing up memories of the adventuring party she was in a few years ago. Wonder what they're up too anyway?
